Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do PMC products differ from other products in the market?

  • PMC products do not have heavy metals such as zirconium, vanadium and molybdenum, because they could be toxic to your nerve cells after long-term consumption.

  • PMC products do not have herbs, or herbal, plant extract antioxidants, because some herbs are known to produce harmful effects in combination with certain prescription drugs or over-the-counter drugs. Also, herbal or plant extract anitoxidants do not produce any unique effects that cannot be produced by PMC formulated antioxidants.

  • PMC products have both dietary antioxidants like vitamin C, E and A, and other important antioxidants made in more limited amounts by the body.

  • Appropriate doses of dietary and endogenous antioxidants, vitamin D, B-vitamins, and minerals are safe and effective. The formulations contain two forms of natural vitamin E, d-alpha tocopherol, most effective in neutralizing free radicals outside the cell, the d-alpha-tocopheryl succinate that is most effective within the cell.

  • They have both vitamin A and mixed carotenoids (90% of "mixed carotenoids" is beta-carotene), because beta-carotene not only acts as a precursor of vitamin A, but it has benefits that are not related to vitamin A.

  • The products have no iron or copper because these trace elements combine with vitamin C and produce free radicals. Furthermore, iron and copper are absorbed from the intestinal tract better in the presence of vitamin C than in the absence of it. This may increase body stores of free iron and copper, because nature has provided no significant mechanisms of excretion of iron and copper among men of all ages and women after menopause. Increased stores of free iron are associated with the increased risk of most chronic diseases.

  • The formulation do not contain zirconium, molybdenum or vanadium because these metals are toxic to the brain with chronic exposure.

2. Why should we take antioxidants twice a day?

PMC recommends taking antioxidant supplements twice a day. If you take your multiple vitamins in the morning, about half of them are removed from your body by evening, and another half by the next morning.

This creates a large fluctuation of vitamin levels in the body that may not produce optimal beneficial effects. By taking antioxidant supplements twice a day, you maintain relatively uniform levels of vitamins throughout the body.

3. Do PMC products interfere with prescription or over-the-counter medications?

No, in fact, it may enhance the efficacy of these drugs. However, persons undergoing radiation or chemotherapy should not take certain PMC formulations, because glutathione-elevating agents (n-acetylcysteine and alpha lipoic acid) present in some of our products may reduce the efficacy of radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

PMC has developed a separate formulation for patients undergoing standard therapy; however, this can be taken only under the supervision of oncologists.

4. Why do PMC products not contain herbal products?

Several herbs are known to interact with prescription and over-the-counter drugs in an adverse manner. In addition, the safety and efficacy of these herbs remain poorly understood. Therefore, PMC formulations have no herbal products.

5. Why should I take vitamins, if I have a good diet and exercise regularly?

Even with a good diet (which is rare), it would be extremely difficult to obtain the effective amounts of some important ingredients by only eating foods that contain them.  Also, many foods contain undesirable contaminants, so a good diet includes unwanted components.  PMC products only include needed ingredients.

All diets (organically or normally grown) form mutagens (agents that can alter gene activity) and other toxins during digestion. These toxins are absorbed and can produce harmful health effects over a long time. Supplementation with antioxidants can reduce the levels of toxins formed in the intestine during digestion. In addition, it is not possible to consume necessary antioxidants in large enough doses that may be needed for maintaining optimal health, although such a diet may be sufficient for normal growth and survival.

6. What benefit should I expect from PMC products?

An improvement of your health by reducing oxidative damage and chronic inflammation-related harmful effects, and by increasing the competency of your immune system.

7. Why are your prices higher than other over-the-counter vitamins?

PMC's micronutrient combinations are research based with antioxidant science that have unique characteristics as shown below:

  • The doses of most ingredients are higher than those present in the average commercially sold vitamins.

  • Most ingredients in PMC's formulations are derived from natural sources; and these ingredients cost much more than the synthetic ones. Antioxidants such as vitamin E and beta-carotene from natural sources are much more effective than the synthetic ones.

  • Coenzyme Q10, alpha lipoic acid and n-acetylcysteine (agents that elevate the levels of the body's natural antioxidants) present in PMC's products are very costly at doses provided in the formulation.

  • D-alpha tocopheryl succinate (the most effective form of vitamin E) is also very costly.

  • If all these components were bought separately, the overall cost would be quite a bit higher than the PMC price.

8. Do I take any other vitamins if I take a PMC product?

No, but other supplements such as Omega-3 fatty acids will not be a problem if taken with any PMC products.

9. Will any of these disease protocols keep me from developing the disease?

No. Disease protocols are in the research phase, and can be provided only through physicians. These nutritional disease protocols may improve the efficacy of standard therapy.

10. Do all vitamin E forms produce similar effects?

Vitamin E protects membranous structures against damage produced by free radicals, whereas vitamin C protects those structures that are present in the water environment. About 80% of the cellular environment contains water. They can also reduce inflammation that is harmful to your health.

  • All vitamin E forms do not have the same beneficial effects on your health. In 1982, Dr. Prasad was the first one who discovered that alph-tocopheryl succinate is the most effective form of vitamin E.

  • Alpha tocopherol, the most common form of vitamin E, is the most effective outside the cells in neutralizing free radicals, whereas vitamin E succinate is most effecitve inside the cells.

  • Our body absorbs the natural form of vitamin E more than the synthetic form. Therefore, for an optimal effect of vitamin E, the inclusion of both forms of vitamin E in a multiple vitamin preparation is important.

11. Why did some human studies with a single antioxidant such as synthetic vitamin E or synthetic beta-carotene produce adverse health effects?

  • These studies were performed in high risk populations such as heavy tobacco smokers who have a high internal oxidative environment due to production of excessive amounts of free radicals by inhaled smoke.

  • It was well established long before the start of human studies that individual antioxidants alone such as vitamin E or beta-carotene will be oxidized rapidly in a high oxidative environment. The oxidized form of most antioxidants act as a free radical; thereby, enhancing the risk of disease. This is exactly what happened in these human studies.

  • No harmful health effects have been reported if the same vitamin E or beta carotene is present in a multiple vitamin preparation containing both dietary and body-made antioxidants.

12. Why don't you offer a liquid vitamin?

Vitamins in liquid form are unstable at room temperature.

13. Are the non-medicinal ingredients and dyes used in Premier Micronutrient Corporation products safe to consume?

All non-medicinal ingredients & dyes used are approved for pharmaceutical compounding and do not include some dyes suspected of being carcinogens.

14. Are PMC products gluten-free?
